Alaska Nanooks head coach Dallas Ferguson announced the 2010-11 men’s ice hockey schedule Thursday. The program’s 32nd NCAA hockey season includes 34 Division I games, including six against non-conference opponents and 28 against Central Collegiate Hockey Association foes.

Former Alaska Nanook ice hockey defenseman Jordan Hendry (2002-06) and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-3, in overtime on Wednesday night (June 9) to win the National Hockey League's coveted Stanley Cup in the sixth game of the finals at the Wachovia Center.

 | Dion ;Knelsen Signs Pro Contract With Norway's Sparta Warriors

Alaska Nanooks senior center Dion ;Knelsen has signed a one-year deal with the Sparta Warriors of Sarpsborg, Norway, and the Norwegian Elite League. The Norwegian Elite League, or Get Ligaen, is the highest tier of professional hockey in Norway and it is there that Knelsen will develop his professional hockey game throughout the 2010-11 season.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Athletics will host the 26th Annual IBEW Nanook Fund Golf Scramble on June 11 at the North Star Golf Club. IBEW is in its seventh year as the title sponsor for the tournament, which is the major fund-raising event for student-athlete scholarships. Proceeds from the tournament will directly benefit the Alaska Nanooks.

 | Chad Johnson Named To Team Canada For IIHF Wold Championships

Team Canada’s General Manager Mark Messier announced that former Alaska Nanook goalie Chad Johnson (Calgary AB), of the National Hockey League’s New York Rangers, has been added to the Team Canada roster for the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championships, May 7-23, in Cologne and Manheim, Germany.
