Berry Leads Spartans in Win Over Michigan

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Michigan State and Ferris State both earned wins to split their series, while Alaska also won to take four points on the weekend. Also, Miami and Western Michigan both notched shootout wins to pick up five points on the weekend.
Columbus, Ohio - Senior forward Adam Henderson had a goal and an assist to lead Alaska over Ohio State, 3-1. Senior forward Jarret Granberg and junior forward Colton Beck each had a goal of their own for the Nanooks, who outshot the Buckeyes, 45-33. Freshman goaltender John Keeney stopped 32 shots in the win. For Ohio State, junior forward Chris Crane netted the lone goal, while freshman goaltender Collin Olson turned aside 42 shots in a losing effort.
Sault Ste. Marie, Mich - Two first-period goals lifted Ferris State to a 2-1 victory over Lake Superior. Junior forward Justin DeMartino had a two-point night with a goal and an assist, while junior forward Cory Kane tallied the other marker. Sophomore goaltender CJ Motte blocked 43-of-44 shots in the win. For the Lakers, junior defenseman Zach Sternberg scored the lone goal on the power play, with senior forward Nick McParland picking up the assist. Junior goaltender Kevin Murdock stopped 26-of-28 shots in the loss.
East Lansing, Mich. - Sophomore forward Matt Berry posted a four-point night with three goals and an assist to lead Michigan State to a 7-2 win over Michigan. Freshman forward Matt DeBlouw and sophomore forward Brent Darnell also had multi-point nights with 1-2-3 scoring lines. Senior forwards Anthony Hayes and Kevin Walrod each added a goal of their own, and freshman goaltender Jake Hildebrand turned aside 40 shots in the win. For the Wolverines, senior forward A.J. Treais and freshman forward Cristoval Nieves scored the goals, while freshmen goaltenders Jared Rutledge and Steve Racine combined to make 22 saves.
Oxford, Ohio- Miami sophomore forward Alex Wideman tied the game with 2:13 left in regulation to force overtime, and then netted the shootout winner, as the RedHawks skated to a 2-2 tie/shootout win against Northern Michigan. Wideman also had an assist for a two-point night. Freshman forward Sean Kuraly potted the other goal for the Redhawks and freshman goaltender Jay Williams made 25 saves. For the Wildcats, junior forward Stephan Viger and sophomore forward Ryan Kesti scored the goals, while junior goaltender Jared Coreau turned aside 31-of-33 shots.
Bowling Green, Ohio - Freshman defenseman Kenny Morrison and junior forward Shane Berschbach each had 1-2-3 scoring lines to lead Western Michigan to a 2-2 tie/shootout win against Bowling Green. Broncos' sophomore goaltender Frank Slubowski turned aside 23 shots. For Bowling Green, junior forward Andrew Wallace and sophomore forward Ryan Carpenter potted the goals, and freshman goaltender Tommy Burke blocked 18 of the 20 shots he faced.
