Farmington Hills, MI... Florida Everblades teammates and CCHA alumni Mike Ratchuk (Michigan State), Pat Nagle (Ferris State) and Joe Sova (Alaska) are now champions of the ECHL.
The Everblades won the 2012 Kelly Cup with a 3-2 overtime win over Las Vegas on May 21. The victory gave Florida a 4-1 win over the Wranglers in the best-of-seven series and earned the Everblades their first-ever ECHL title.
Ratchuk scored his fifth goal of the postseason late in the first period to give the Everblades a 2-0 lead in game six. The defenseman played in 26 regular season games this season with Florida, and finished with a scoring line of 8-13-21. Ratchuk played two years at Michigan State and helped the Spartans win the NCAA Championship in 2007.
Sova joined the Everblades in early March from the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. In three seasons at Alaska he recorded 58 points (13 goals, 45 assists). He also led all Nanooks defensemen in points (24) during the 2009-10 season. Nagle played four seasons for the Bulldogs and was an All-CCHA honorable mention selection his freshman year. He finished with a .914 save percentage in four years at Ferris State.
