FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – A home-and-home series between rivals Michigan and Michigan State headlines this weekends’ CCHA action for Nov. 13-15.
The No. 6 Wolverines (4-4-0, 2-2-0-0 CCHA) welcome the No. 13 Spartans (7-2-1, 4-1-1-0 CCHA) to Yost Ice Arena Friday for a 7:35 p.m. start. The two squads will then travel to East Lansing for the second game Saturday. MSU, led CCHA scoring leader JR F Corey Tropp and HCA National Rookie of the Month Derek Grant, will be looking to end a six-game losing streak against Michigan. Both games will be televised with Friday’s contest being broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit and Saturday’s on Comcast channel 900.
Miami (8-1-1, 5-1-0-0 CCHA) maintained its No. 1 ranking in the national polls following the team’s road sweep of Michigan and will look to build on that momentum when they host Ferris State (7-3-0, 2-2-0-0 CCHA) for a pair of games. The two teams met just twice last season for a series in Oxford, Ohio. The RedHawks claimed a shootout win in the first game, but the Bulldogs responded with a 2-1 victory the next night.
No. 8 Notre Dame (5-4-1, 2-1-1-0 CCHA) will host Northern Michigan (2-5-1, 1-3-0-0 CCHA) for two early starts Saturday and Sunday. Friday’s contest begins at 5:05 p.m. while a 4:05 p.m. faceoff is scheduled for Saturday. This series will be a rematch of a 2009 CCHA Championship semifinal that the Fighting Irish won, 2-1.
No. 9 Alaska (6-1-1, 3-1-0-0 CCHA) travels out of state for the first time this season and will visit Bowling Green (0-7-1, 0-3-1-1) Friday and Saturday. The Nanooks’ current ranking is the best in school history thanks to a 5-0-1 start to the season before suffering a loss to Notre Dame Friday, 3-2. The teams split last season with BGSU winning the first game, 1-0, and Alaska taking the second game, 3-0.
Lake Superior (4-5-1, 1-4-1-0 CCHA) will visit No. 11 Nebraska-Omaha (4-1-3, 1-2-1-1 CCHA) for a pair of games, including a 7:35 p.m. start Saturday. Western Michigan (5-2-1, 1-2-1-1 CCHA) plays a series at Ohio State (3-6-1, 2-3-1-1) with 8:05 faceoff scheduled for Saturday. The Broncos are on a four-game unbeaten streak at Value City Arena and have not lost there since Jan. 29, 2005.
All games begin at 7:05 p.m. local time unless noted otherwise
