CCHA NEWS AND NOTES

Bowling Green- The Falcons, who finish a home-and-home series with Michigan Tuesday have beaten the Wolverines in their last two trips to Yost Ice Arena; 4-2 on Nov. 20 and 3-0 last season on Jan. 16.

Ferris State- The Bulldogs have a 1-5-2 record in conference play in their last eight games after putting together a 12-game undefeated run (10-0-2) that culminated with a 4-2 victory over Notre Dame on Jan. 10.

Lake Superior- The Lakers, 0-3-1-1 in their last four games, host Ferris State this weekend. They will pay tribute to eight seniors; Steven Kaunisto, Brad Cooper, Simon Gysbers, John Scrymgeour, Pat Aubry, Zac MacVoy, Pat Inglis and Mitch Edmondson following Saturday’s game.

Miami- The RedHawks extended their CCHA unbeaten streak to 20 games (16-0-4) with Saturday’s 10-4 home-ice win over Lake Superior State. They need just one more point, or Ferris State point lost, to clinch the third regular-season title in program history.

Michigan- Red Berenson notched the 689th win of his career, 2-1, at Bowling Green on Feb. 4, tying him with Len Ceglarski (Clarkson, Boston College) for sixth place on the NCAA Hockey all-time coaching wins list.

Michigan State-  The Spartans were limited to their lowest scoring weekend of the season with a 2-0 loss and 1-1 tie/shootout win at Alaska. Their previous low was two goals against Notre Dame in a November series.

Nebraska-Omaha-Senior defenseman Eddie DelGrosso became the 11th member of the Mavs’ Century Club with two assists in Friday’s 5-5 tie with Ohio State. He needs seven points to surpass current NHL’er Greg Zanon as the top scoring rearguard in school history.

Northern Michigan- Senior Brian Stewart made a career-high 51 saves in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Ferris State for his third shutout of the season, and ninth of his career, to move into sole possession of second place on the school’s all-time list. The NMU record for shutouts is 12 held by Craig Kowalski (2000-04).

Notre Dame- The Irish opened the week as the top penalty-killing team in the nation at 90 percent. After giving up five power-play goals in six chances in a pair of losses at Western Michigan, they are now eighth with an 87 percent rating.

Ohio State- The Buckeyes scored in the first minute each night in a tie and loss at Nebraska-Omaha. Hunter Bishop scored Friday 34 seconds into the contest and C.J. Severyn tallied 15 seconds into the game Saturday.

Western Michigan- The 11 goals scored by the Broncos in a weekend sweep of Notre Dame are the most since a Jan. 2007 series against Alabama-Huntsville. They scored a total of 13 goals during an 0-6-2 January this season.

CCHA- At least one CCHA team has taken part in three of the four outdoor college hockey games played in the past 10 years with Michigan’s participation in the Camp Randall Hockey Classic on Saturday in Madison, Wis., in front of 55,031 fans. Michigan and Michigan State set the world record for attendance of 74,554 on Oct. 6, 2001, in the "Cold War" at Spartan Stadium. Ohio State battled Wisconsin on Feb. 11, 2006, in the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic in Green Bay, Wis., in front of 40,890 fans.
