Alaska- The Nanooks have captured tournament titles on consecutive weekends as part of a 3-0-1 start that is their best in over two decades. The last time the Nanooks were unbeaten in their first four games was during the 1987-88 season, when they recorded six straight wins before suffering their first loss.
Bowling Green-The Falcons’ 7-2 loss on Friday to the U.S. NTDP Under-18 Team was their first setback in an exhibition game since falling, 10-2 to Czechoslovakia in a contest played on Dec. 21, 1985.
Ferris State- Led by sophomore defenseman Chad Billins and sophomore forward Derek Graham, both with a 1-3-4 scoring line, nineteen different skaters have at least one point during the Bulldogs 3-1-0 start to the season.
Lake Superior- The Lakers will host Ohio State this coming weekend during the second annual ‘Pink in the Rink’. Last year the Lakers helped raise $12,000 for local women’s health care in Chippewa County. The players will be adorned in pink jerseys on Saturday in support of breast cancer for women.
Miami- Friday’s 6-3 victory at New Hampshire gave coach Enrico Blasi his fourth 3-0 start in 11 seasons on the RedHawk bench. His 2006-07 team opened 8-0 while two other squads started 4-0 and 3-0.
Michigan-With Michigan facing off at Boston University on Saturday, coaches Red Berenson and Jack Parker have a combined 1,489 career wins between them. BU’s Parker is third all-time in NCAA hockey wins with 815 while UM’s Berenson is seventh with 674 victories.
Michigan State- Derek Grant started his college career with three straight multiple-point games and at least a point in every game for the 3-1-0 Spartans. A 2008 NHL draft pick of Ottawa, he leads all CCHA rookies in scoring and ranks second overall in the league with a 2-5-7 line.
Nebraska-Omaha- The Mavericks have outscored opponents, 7-0 in the third period as part of their 3-0-1 start while redshirt freshman goalie John Faulkner leads the league with a 0.94 goals-against average and sports a .958 save percentage in his four appearances.
Northern Michigan-Coming off a bye week, the Wildcats open a four-game homestand against two teams that participated in the 2009 Frozen Four. Bemidji State visits Marquette this coming weekend followed by the Miami RedHawks for the start of league action on Oct. 30-31.
Notre Dame- Freshman goaltender Mike Johnson stopped 29 shots in blanking Providence College, 2-0, on Friday night. He became the second Irish goaltender to record a shutout in his first career start. Current senior Tom O’Brien did it last Oct. 18 when he stopped all 17 shots he faced in a 7-0 win over Sacred Heart.
Ohio State- The Buckeyes penalty kill was 11-for-12 in the series split with Denver and now has stopped 22-of-24 opponent chances on the year (.917). The squad has two shorthanded goals - John Albert tallied vs. Quinnipiac and Shane Sims scored against Denver.
Western Michigan- Sophomore forward J.J. Crew’s hat trick in Friday’s 5-1 win over Mercyhurst was the first three-goal game for a Bronco in nearly three years since Mark Letestu notched one on Oct. 28, 2006 against Nebraska-Omaha.
CCHA- The conference has posted ‘video headshots’ on CCHA.com to allow broadcasters, media members and fans to see each student-athlete in the league introduce himself with their name, hometown and class year. Just access the ‘Player Intro’ link via each school’s Player Bios page to see them.
