Alaska - The Nanooks last played on Dec. 8, 2012 (3-3 tie/shootout win against Bowling Green) and have nine more days until their next game at Michigan on Jan. 11.
Bowling Green - The Falcons’ 3-0 victory against No. 17 Niagara on Saturday marks their first win over a ranked opponent this year. The Falcons’ last win against a ranked opponent came in the CCHA playoffs last season, when the Falcons defeated No. 2 Ferris State, 4-3, on Mar. 11, 2012.
Ferris State - Freshman goaltender Charles Williams made his first career start and picked up his first career victory on Saturday in the Bulldogs’ 6-2 win over Minnesota Duluth at the Florida College Hockey Classic.
Lake Superior - Senior forward Nick McParland has been named assistant captain, joining junior forward Kellan Lain and junior defenseman Matt Bruneteau, who are also assistant captains. Senior forward Domenic Monardo continues to serve as captain.
Miami - Friday’s shutout of Ohio State marked Miami’s fourth whitewash of the season. Freshman goaltender Jay Williams made 29 saves to earn his second career shutout with his other coming Nov. 16 vs. Michigan State. He is now unbeaten in his last nine starts (6-0-3).
Michigan - Junior goaltender Adam Janecyk made both starts in goal for the Wolverines at the Great Lakes Invitational and posted his second win of the season in a 5-2 victory over Michigan State on Sunday.
Michigan State - Sophomore forward Matt Berry scored in both of the Spartans games last weekend. He has tied his freshman-year total with 11 goals, which currently leads the CCHA and is the second-most nationally.
Northern Michigan - The Wildcats last played on Dec. 15, 2012 (3-1 loss at Lake Superior) and travel to St. Cloud State this weekend for their final non-conference road series. Northern Michigan is 4-1 vs. opponents from the WCHA so far this season.
Notre Dame - The Irish’s 14-4-0 record at the break is their best since the 2008-09 season when Notre Dame was 14-3-2 heading into the holidays. The most wins that Notre Dame has had going into the holidays came in 2007-08 when they were 16-4-0.
Ohio State - The Buckeyes lost two games on a weekend for the first time this season, going 0-2 at the Three Rivers Classic. The squad was shut out for the first time this season Friday vs. Miami, falling 1-0, before losing to Penn State, 5-4, Saturday in the tournament’s third-place game.
Western Michigan - The Broncos made it to the final of the Great Lakes Invitational for the second time, falling to Michigan Tech, 4-0, on Sunday. They have now qualified for the championship game two of the three times they have participated in the holiday tournament in Detroit.
CCHA Celebrate the Legacy - On Jan. 6, 1979, Bowling Green became the first CCHA team to be ranked No. 1 the nation. The Falcons were 23-3-1 (13-0-0 in the CCHA) and garnered seven of a possible 10 first-place votes.
