Bowling Green - Sophomore forward Dan DeSalvo’s first goal of the season in Friday’s 4-3 (OT) loss to Ferris State snapped a 13-game goal drought. It was his first goal since March 11, 2012, in the Falcons series-clinching game against the Bulldogs in the second round of the CCHA playoffs.
Ferris State - After missing nine games with an injury, Bulldogs senior defenseman Scott Czarnowczan had three assists in a weekend sweep at Bowling Green, including one on junior forward Garrett Thompson’s game-winning goal in a 4-3 overtime victory over the Falcons on Friday.
Lake Superior - The Lakers take an unprecedented string of six straight series splits into this weekend’s home series against Ohio State. Their last three losses have all been by a 2-1 margin. Their last three wins have been by an average victory margin of three goals.
Miami - Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Michigan State was the RedHawks’ first this year when scoring less than three goals. Miami is 6-0-0 when scoring at least three goals this season and improved to 1-2-2 when scoring less than three markers.
Michigan - The Wolverines suffered their first series sweep of the season, losing 3-1 and 4-1, to Notre Dame. Michigan hosts Bowling Green on Wednesday before traveling to New York for a Saturday non-conference game against Cornell at Madison Square Garden.
Michigan State - The Spartans snapped a streak of three consecutive Friday losses in CCHA games with a 2-2 tie at Miami. Michigan State is 1-4-1 overall on Friday this season. On Saturday, the Spartans’ 2-0 loss snapped a streak of three straight Saturday victories.
Northern Michigan - The Wildcats were swept at Ohio State, losing 2-0 and 4-2, in the weekend series. It is the second year in a row the Buckeyes have swept Northern Michigan in Columbus.
Notre Dame - Freshman forward Mario Lucia scored his first college goal in a 4-1 Irish win at Michigan on Friday. It completed their first sweep at Yost Ice Arena in 35 years (Feb. 3-4, 1978) when Lucia’s father, Don, was a Notre Dame frosh.
Ohio State - The Buckeyes posted their first series sweep since Dec. 2-3, 2011 with 2-0 and 4-2 wins over Northern Michigan. The four goals scored by Ohio State Saturday were a season high. Sophomore forward Ryan Dzingel led the Buckeyes with a 1-3-4 scoring line.
Western Michigan - Until sophomore defenseman Garrett Haar’s goal at 3:43 in the third period of Saturday’s 3-2 win at Alaska, the Broncos had not scored a five-on-five goal in 209 minutes and 41 seconds. Western Michigan junior forward Shane Berschbach also scored a five-on-five goal just 57 seconds after that.
CCHA - Former Ferris State Bulldogs’ defenseman Chad Billins has 14 assists in 14 games with Grand Rapids of the AHL this season. His 0-14-14 scoring line is tied for second in rookie scoring and sixth best among the league’s blueliners.
