2011 CCHA Champion Miami RedHawks
Led by All-American forwards Andy Miele and Carter Camper, senior forward Pat Cannone, sophomore forward Reilly Smith, junior defenseman Chris Wideman and a pair of junior goaltenders in Cody Reichard and Connor Knapp, Miami finished the 2010-11 regular season in third place (16-7-5-2) in the 11-team CCHA standings, six points behind first-place Michigan and four points behind second-place Notre Dame.
The Enrico Blasi-coached RedHawks got two goals each from Miele and Smith to sweep seventh-seeded Alaska, 4-1 and 4-1, in a best-of-three second round playoff series and earn a trip to Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena to face the Irish in the semifinals. Miele and Camper each had two goals and Miami knocked off Notre Dame, 6-2, to setup a matchup against Western Michigan, who had finished in fourth place in the regular season, in the final. In the championship, Smith scored twice and the RedHawks beat the Broncos, 5-2, for their first-ever CCHA playoff title.
Miami lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to New Hampshire, 3-1, and finished the season with a 23-10-6 record.
Miele won the 2011 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, the first-ever for Miami, after leading the nation in scoring with 71 points (24-47-71). He had at least one point in 33 games, multiple points in 22 and tied a school record with a 17-game scoring streak from January 8 - March 19, 2011.
As part of the ‘Celebrate the Legacy’ final season, the CCHA is looking for all the players who have their name engraved on the Mason Cup, the CCHA’s playoff championship trophy.
