Gongshow Goaltender of the Month for January

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) announced today that Miami freshman Ryan McKay has been named the Gongshow Goaltender of the Month for February.

McKay appeared in five games for Miami during the month of February, posting a 4-1-0 record with one shutout, helping the RedHawks to a 6-2-0 record on the month. His 1.20 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage led all goaltenders in the nation for February, as he allowed just six goals and made 148 saves.

The Palatine, Ill., native got his first start against Alaska on Feb. 2 where his 29-save performance helped the RedHawks to a 6-2 win, with both goals against coming on the power play. His next outing came on Feb. 6, where McKay stopped all 29 shots he faced to blank Western Michigan, 4-0, earning him his first CCHA Warrior Goaltender of the Week honor.

The 6-foot, 225-pound netminder got back-to-back starts for the first time this season on Feb. 15 and 17. He allowed just one goal in the first contest for his third straight win in a 3-1 victory over Notre Dame, turning aside 20 shots. His only defeat of the month came two days later at Soldier Field in his home state, where he made 26 saves in a 2-1 loss to the Irish. McKay wrapped up February with a sweep-clinching, 2-1 win over Lake Superior on Feb. 23, posting a career-high 44 saves.
