FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today that sophomore goaltender Dustin Carlson of Ohio State has been named the RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month for November.
Carlson, a 22-year-old sports management major, led the Buckeyes with a 6-1 record in November, tripling his career wins in just eight apperances. In seven starts, he recorded a 1.29 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage with a 1.47 GAA and .954 Spct. for the entire month. Carlson registered a shutout in three straight weekends, including November 7 at MSU, November 14 vs. Robert Morris and 29 saves at NMU on November 22. He made 30 or more stops in four games during the month and established a career high for saves twice in a November 28-29 series. The Forest Lake, Minn., native made 36 stops in a 4-3 Friday night victory vs. Nebraska-Omaha and followed that up with a 44-save performance, which included 20 stops in the third period, in a 3-2 win over the Mavericks.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound netminder also climbed the Perani Cup standings garnering first-star honors in two games and second-star honors in three more contests. Carlson allowed only five even-strength goals in the month, 11 in total, while making a total of 229 saves. He also lowered his season goals-against-average from 3.80 to 2.23 and raised his save percentage from .863 to .928. The Buckeye goalie also picked up his first collegiate assist against Michigan State on November 8.
Special mention for RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month honors goes to Alaska senior goalie Chad Johnson, Bowling Green senior forward Brandon Svendsen, Ferris State senior forward Justin Lewandowski, Miami sophomore forward Andy Miele, Michigan sophomore forward Louie Caporusso, Nebraska-Omaha junior defenseman Eddie DelGrosso, Northern Michigan sophomore defenseman Erik Gustafsson and Notre Dame senior goaltender Jordan Pearce.
