Ferris State earns shutout win over Michigan

Farmington Hills, Mich. – Ferris State and Ohio State each earned shutouts, Western Michigan defeated Northern Michigan, Notre Dame held on for a win over Lake Superior and Miami defeated Alaska.

Big Rapids, Mich. – Sophomore goaltender CJ Motte made 27 saves, and Ferris State got goals from five different players in a 5-0 shutout of Michigan.  Freshman forward Matt Robertson scored his first collegiate goal, and sophomore defenseman Simon Denis, senior forward Eric Alexander, freshman forward Dakota Klecha and junior forward Garrett Thompson added goals for the Bulldogs.  Michigan freshman goalie Jared Rutledge stopped 22 shots in the loss.

East Lansing, Mich. – Ohio State sophomore forward Ryan Dzingel scored the game-winning goal with 2:13 left in regulation and senior goaltender Brady Hjelle made 31 saves in the Buckeyes' 1-0 win at Michigan State.  Freshman goaltender Jake Hildebrand made 32 saves for the Spartans.

Kalamazoo, Mich. – Senior forward Dane Walters’ five-on-three, power-play goal with 8:50 left in regulation broke a 2-2 tie and Western Michigan took a come-from-behind 4-2 win over visiting Northern Michigan.  The Broncos got two goals from junior forward Chase Balisy, including one short-handed and the other into an empty net, and a power-play goal from freshman defenseman Kenney Morrison.  Junior forward Jake Johnson and sophomore forward Ryan Daugherty scored for the Wildcats.  Sophomore goaltender Frank Slubowski made 10 saves for Western Michigan, while junior goaltender Jared Coreau stopped 35 shots for Northern Michigan.

South Bend, Ind. – After taking a 2-0 lead, Notre Dame held on for a 3-2 victory over Lake Superior. Irish junior forward Anders Lee, freshman forward Mario Lucia and junior forward Mike Voran scored goals and sophomore defenseman Robbie Russo and junior forward T.J. Tynan each had two assists on the night. For Lake Superior, junior forward Kellan Lain and senior forward Domenic Monardo each had single goals.  Notre Dame junior goaltender Steven Summerhays made 18 saves in the win, while junior Kevin Murdock stopped 32 shots in the loss.

Fairbanks, Alaska - Sophomore forward Cody Murphy scored two goals as Miami jumped out to a 4-0 lead and extended its unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2) with a 5-2 win at Alaska. RedHawks' sophomore forward Austin Czarnik had a 1-2-3 scoring line while freshman forward Riley Barber and senior forward Curtis McKenzie each finished with a goal and an assist. Alaska got goals from senior forward Andy Taranto and freshman forward Nolan Huysman. Senior forward Adam Henderson added two assists. Miami freshman goaltender Jay Williams made 31 saves to earn the win. Alaska freshman goaltender John Keeney finished with 25 saves.
