Lake Superior shuts out Miami

Farmington Hills, Mich. – Notre Dame and Western Michigan completed weekend sweeps, Lake Superior earned a split with a shutout of Miami and Alaska had a tie/shootout win against Bowling Green. Ohio State tied Robert Morris in non-conference action.
Oxford, Ohio – Lake Superior junior goaltender Kevin Murdock made 46 saves and senior forward Domenic Monardo scored the only goal of the game as the Lakers earned a weekend split at Miami with a 1-0 shutout of the RedHawks. Miami freshman goaltender Ryan McKay made 28 saves in the loss.
South Bend, Ind. – Notre Dame got goals from five different players and junior goaltender Steven Summerhays made 29 saves as the Irish defeated Michigan State, 5-1, to finish a sweep of the Spartans. Junior forwards Anders Lee, Mike Voran, and David Gerths, along with freshman forwards Steven Fogarty and Thomas DiPauli, scored for Notre Dame and sophomore defenseman Robbie Russo added two assists. Sophomore forward Matt Berry scored a third-period goal for the Spartans and junior goaltender Will Yanakeff made 18 saves in the loss.
Kalamazoo, Mich. - Western Michigan scored two, third-period power-play goals in the span of 1:54 to earn a come-from-behind 2-1 win over visiting Ferris State and complete a sweep of the Bulldogs. After Ferris State junior forward Garrett Thompson scored a second-period goal, Broncos’ junior forward Chase Balisy tied the game, 1-1, with 4:08 remaining in regulation. Senior forward Mike Leone’s second goal in as many nights was the game-winner. Western Michigan sophomore goaltender Frank Slubowski made 25 saves, while the Bulldogs sophomore goaltender C.J. Motte stopped 33 shots in the loss.
Fairbanks, Alaska – Bowling Green senior goaltender Andrew Hammond made 41 saves and sophomore forward Adam Berkle scored an extra-attacker goal with 56 seconds left in regulation to help the Falcons earn a 3-3 tie at Alaska. After a scoreless overtime period, Nanooks’ senior forward Andy Taranto scored the only goal in the shootout to help Alaska earn the extra point. The Nanooks took a 3-1 lead on goals from junior forward Cody Kunyk, junior defenseman Michael Quinn and freshman forward Tyler Morley. Sophomore defenseman Trevor Campbell finished with two assists. Freshman forward Mark Cooper and junior forward Cam Wojtala also scored for the Falcons, and senior defenseman Robert Shea and sophomore forward Dan DeSalvo each had two assists. Alaska freshman goaltender John Keeney stopped 28 shots in the tie/shootout win.
Pittsburgh, Penn. – Ohio State freshman defenseman Craig Dalrymple’s goal with 3:24 left in regulation helped the Buckeyes earn a 2-2 tie with Robert Morris in a non-conference matchup. Ohio State senior defenseman Devon Krough’s second-period power-play goal tied the game, 1-1, and senior goaltender Brady Hjelle made 37 saves, including five in overtime.
