Miami Places Four Among Specialty Award Finalists

The Miami RedHawks will be well represented next week at the CCHA Awards Banquet with finalists for four of the six annual awards, the league office announced today. The list of finalists includes Cody Reichard for RBC Player of the Year and Enrico Blasi for Coach of the Year.


No. 2/1 Miami, Ohio State Renew Rivalry

No. 2/1 Miami begins CCHA Tournament play this weekend when it welcomes in-state rival Ohio State to campus. The top-seeded RedHawks and No. 8 Buckeyes meet in the best-of-three quarterfinal series Friday, Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday. The teams just met two weeks ago in the regular-season finale, skating to a scoreless tie.

For the second straight week and fourth time this year, Miami ranks second behind Denver in the national hockey polls announced Monday. The RedHawks lost some ground to the Pioneers after a win and a tie against Ohio State.

Miami and Ohio State battled for 65 minutes on Saturday with plenty of scoring chances but RedHawk Connor Knapp and Buckeye Dustin Carlson each kept the opponent at bay. The result was just the third scoreless tie in Miami hockey history Saturday at Value City Arena.

Third Period Goals Sink No. 1 Miami, 4-2

No. 1 Miami's eight-game winning streak and school-record 11-game unbeaten streak came to an end Saturday night with a 4-2 loss to Nebraska-Omaha at Steve Cady Arena. The loss is only the RedHawks' second in CCHA play this season and first since Oct. 24, 2009, a span of 23 league games without a loss.
