Miami Extends Unbeaten Streak to Eight Games

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Miami extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a home win over Lake Superior while Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Notre Dame also earned victories. Ohio State fell to Robert Morris in non-conference play.

Kalamazoo, Mich. – Senior forward Dane Walters scored twice on the power play, helping Western Michigan to a 4-2 win over Ferris State. Freshman defenseman Kenney Morrison notched a 1-1-2 scoring line while senior forward Mike Leone notched his first goal of the season for the Broncos. Junior forward Garrett Thompson had a goal and an assist for Ferris State and senior forward Travis Ouellette added a goal of his own. Western Michigan sophomore goaltender Frank Slubowski made 13 saves for the win while Ferris State sophomore goaltender CJ Motte blocked 28 shots.

South Bend, Ind. – Notre Dame topped Michigan State, 3-2, earning their fourth straight win. Freshman forward Mario Lucia and junior forward T.J. Tynan both potted 1-1-2 scoring lines and junior forward Nick Larson also found the back of the net. For the Spartans, sophomore forward Brent Darnell scored both goals. In goal for Notre Dame, junior goaltender Steven Summerhays made 22 saves, earning his 25th career win. At the other end of the ice, freshman goaltender Jake Hildebrand stopped 36 shots.

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State held a lead twice in the game, but eventually fell to Robert Morris, 3-2, in non-conference action. Sophomore forwards Matt Johnson and Max McCormick scored for the Buckeyes, with McCormick’s tally coming with the man advantage. Ohio State senior goaltender Brady Hjelle made 24 saves in the loss.

Oxford, Ohio – Miami extended its unbeaten streak to eight games by defeating Lake Superior, 3-2. Lakers' junior forward Kellan Lain opened the scoring on the power play. Miami answered with three straight goals from freshmen forwards Kevin Morris, Sean Kuraly and Riley Barber. Sophomore forward Chris Ciotti added another power-play goal for Lake Superior. Miami freshman goaltender Jay Williams stopped 23-of-25 shots while junior goaltender Kevin Kapalka made 42 saves.

Fairbanks, Alaska – Bowling Green senior goaltender Andrew Hammond made 39 saves, including 21 in the third period, backstopping Bowling Green to a 3-2 win over Alaska and snapping a six-game winless streak. Junior forward Bryce Williamson opened the scoring for the Falcons before Alaska sophomore forward Maxime Dumond tied the game, 1-1. Bowling Green responded with goals from junior forward Brett Mohler and freshman forward Mark Cooper. Senior forward Chad Gehon added a third-period goal for Alaska. Sophomore goaltender Sean Cahill made 13 saves for the Nanooks.
