Michigan and Notre Dame Advance to CCHA Championship

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Michigan topped Western Michigan and Notre Dame defeated Bowling Green, sending both teams to the CCHA Championship at Joe Louis Arena. Miami and Ohio State each earned wins to force a decisive Game 3 in their quarterfinal series on Sunday.
South Bend, Ind. – Notre Dame junior forward Bryan Rust scored a power-play goal and a goal on a penalty shot, helping the Irish to a 4-3 win over Bowling Green and advancing Notre Dame to the CCHA Championship at Joe Louis Arena. Junior forward Anders Lee and senior forward Nick Larson also scored for Notre Dame. Junior forward Bryce Williamson scored a pair of goals for the Falcons and freshman forward Ben Murphy added a goal of his own on the power play. Notre Dame junior goaltender Steven Summerhays made 29 saves while Bowling Green senior goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 30 shots.
Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State scored three straight goals to top Ferris State, 3-1, and force a third game in their quarterfinal series. Sophomore forwards Ryan Dzingel, Max McCormick and Nick Oddo all scored for the Buckeyes, with Dzingel’s tally coming on the power play. Senior forward Travis Ouellette scored the Bulldogs' only goal, finding the back of the net with the man advantage. Senior goaltender Brady Hjelle made 27 saves for Ohio State. At the other end of the ice, Ferris State sophomore goaltender CJ Motte turned aside 35 shots.
Kalamazoo, Mich. – Michigan scored four goals in the second period, powering them to a 5-1 win over Western Michigan and advancing the Wolverines to Joe Louis Arena for the 24th consecutive season. Sophomore forward Alex Guptill notched a pair of goals for Michigan, while senior forward Kevin Lynch and junior forward Derek DeBlois each scored their 10th goals of the season. Sophomore forward Andrew Sinelli also found the back of the net for the Wolverines. The lone goal for the Broncos came from freshman forward Colton Hargrove. Freshman goaltender Steve Racine blocked 22 shots in the win for Michigan, while Western Michigan sophomore goaltender Frank Slubowski and freshman goaltender Lukas Hafner combined to make 24 saves.
Oxford, Ohio – Miami sophomore forward Austin Czarnik scored twice as Miami defeated Michigan State, 4-1, to force a Game 3 in the quarterfinals of the CCHA Tournament. Sophomore forwards Cody Murphy and Jimmy Mullin also scored for Miami, with Murphy adding an assist for a two-point night. Michigan State’s only tally came off the stick of freshman forward Matt DeBlouw. In goal for the RedHawks, freshman goaltender Ryan McKay stopped 16 shots while Michigan State freshman goaltender Jake Hildebrand made 33 saves.
