Michigan State hockey coach Rick Comley has announced that Jake Chelios (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Spartans. He will join fellow incoming freshmen Lee Reimer (Landmark, Manitoba), Greg Wolfe (Canton, Mich.) and Willie Yanakeff (Jerome, Mich.) on the Spartan roster in the fall of 2010.

USA Hockey announced today that former Spartan Tim Kennedy is among 11 players who have been added to the 2010 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Men's Championship, May 7-23, in Cologne, Gelsenkirchen and Mannheim, Germany.

Michigan State junior co-captain Jeff Petry (Farmington Hills, Mich.) has signed a professional contract with the Edmonton Oilers, and will report to the Oilers' American Hockey League affiliate Springfield Falcons immediately, as announced by the Oilers on Friday afternoon. Petry, a second-round pick of the Oilers in 2006 (45th overall), just completed his junior season for the Spartans, and will forgo his final season of collegiate eligibility. According to the Edmonton Oilers website, Petry signed a two-year NHL entry-level contract. Petry is expected to make his professional debut this weekend, as Springfield has games at Lowell (Fri.), Portland (Sat.), and Albany (Sun.).

Three Michigan State hockey players have been voted to the CCHA All-Conference Teams, as selected by a vote of the conference's 12 head coaches. The teams were released on Wednesday, and three Spartans have earned Second-Team honors: junior forward Corey Tropp (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.), junior defenseman Jeff Petry (Farmington Hills, Mich.), and sophomore netminder Drew Palmisano (Ann Arbor, Mich.). It is the first All-Conference honor for each of the student-athletes.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan State hockey program handed out its team awards at the annual banquet on Wednesday evening, March 3, at the Kellogg Center. Junior alternate captain Corey Tropp (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) was named the team's Most Valuable Player as well as capturing the team's Outstanding Offensive Player Award, while senior co-captain Nick Sucharski (Toronto, Ontario) was the only other multiple-award recipient. Sucharski was named the team's Bill Burgess Outstanding Senior Award winner, and also received the Blue Line President's Award, given to the top scholar-athlete in the senior class.
