Spartans, Irish Tie; ND Wins Shootout

Michigan State and Notre Dame skated to a 1-1 tie on Thursday evening at Munn Ice Arena, but the Irish earned the extra point in the standings as they won the shootout in four rounds, 2-1. Drew Palmisano made 25 saves for MSU, as it extended its unbeaten streak to eight games (6-0-2). Derek Grant had the lone goal for the Spartans, who will face the Irish again on Sunday in a matinee effort in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Spartans Ink Two Icers to NLI's

Michigan State hockey coach Rick Comley has announced that Lee Reimer (Landmark, Manitoba) and Willie Yanakeff (Jerome, Mich.) have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Spartans, beginning in the fall of 2010.


Palmisano Earns CCHA Weekly Honor

Michigan State sophomore goaltender Drew Palmisano (Ann Arbor, Mich.) was named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week on Monday Nov. 16. Palmisano limited Michigan to two goals on the weekend and backstopped the Spartans to their second shutout of the season at home on Saturday. Palmisano posted a 1.00 GAA and .960 save percentage over the two-game set and stopped 48 of 50 shots.


Spartans Shut Out Michigan, Sweep Weekend

Michigan State completed a weekend sweep of archrival Michigan on Saturday with a 2-0 shutout of the Wolverines at Munn Ice Arena. A capacity crowd of 7,009 watched the Spartans win both ends of a weekend set for the first time since the 1997-98 season, and sophomore goaltender Drew Palmisano record a 31-save shutout. Spartans Knock Off UM, 3-2

Michigan State extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a 3-2 victory over Michigan in Ann Arbor on Friday evening. The Spartans limited their hosts to just 19 shots on net, the game-winner from sophomore Daultan Leveille, and a pair of primary assists from blueliner Matt Crandell, who earned the game's first star. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for MSU at the hands of its archrival.

Spartans tie UNO 3-3, Lose Shootout

Michigan State skated to a 3-3 overtime tie with Nebraska-Omaha on Friday evening, but lost the shootout 2-1 in four shooters. Mike Merrifield had a goal and an assist for MSU, which is now 7-2-1, 4-1-1-0 in conference play headed into a home-and-home with Michigan next weekend.


Grant Named National Rookie of the Month

Michigan State got a 31-save shutout from sophomore netminder Drew Palmisano and a goal and an assist from Corey Tropp in a 3-0 victory over tenth-ranked Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday night. MSU has won four straight games - all in conference - is now 7-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in CCHA play.

MSU Hockey Supports MSU-PSU Blood Drive Challenge

Head Coach Rick Comley and the MSU hockey program has partnered with the American Red Cross to encourage Michigan State University students, fans and alumni to show their Spartan pride by helping MSU defeat Big Ten rival Penn State University for the 16th Annual MSU-PSU Blood Challenge. This is an annual challenge that leads up to the football game played between the schools in late November, and this year's challenge takes place November 2 - 19.

Spartans Complete Sweep with 5-3 Win

Michigan State withstood late pressure from the Western Michigan power play and held on for a 5-3 victory in Kalamazoo on Saturday evening. The Spartans recorded their first CCHA sweep since late in the 2007-08 season. Corey Tropp got the eventual game-winner, but in a week that Rick Comley emphasized the need for the Spartans to get some scoring from places other than their top two lines, MSU got the first two goals of the game from fourth-line freshmen. Both Anthony Hayes and Dean Chelios netted their first collegiate tallies.


Spartans Gain Dramatic 2-1 Win Over WMU

Michigan State won its third straight home game with a 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Western Michigan on Friday night at Munn Ice Arena. A last-grasp goal for the Broncos was waved off after a video review ruled that it had not crossed the line before the clock expired. MSU is now 5-2-0, 2-1-0 CCHA, while Western Michigan is 4-1-0 and drops its first CCHA game of the season.
