MSU Sweeps Michigan; FSU Takes Second Straight Shootout From Miami

Farmington Hills, Mich., Michigan State completed a home-and-home sweep of Michigan on Saturday and Ferris State topped No. 1 Miami in a shootout for the second time in as many nights. Ohio State completed its weekend sweep over Western Michigan.



At South Bend, Ind.,
senior forward Matt Butcher’s power-play goal in the third period proved to be the game-winner as Northern Michigan edged Notre Dame, 3-2. The Wildcats also got goals from junior forward Jared Brown and senior forward Ray Kaunisto; both scored in the first period. Senior forward Kevin Deeth and junior forward Calle Ridderwall contributed goals for the Irish who outshot Northern Michigan, 38-18.  Nine Wildcats collected a point in the win.


At East Lansing, Mich.,
sophomore goaltender Drew Palmisano stopped all 28 shots that he faced as Michigan State defeated Michigan, 2-0, and completed a home-and-home sweep. Junior forward Andrew Rowe notched a goal for the second straight night for the Spartans. Freshman forward Chris Forfar also scored for Michigan State. Junior goaltender Bryan Hogan made 17 saves in the loss for the Wolverines. 


At Columbus
, Ohio, sophomore forward Zac Dalpe found the back of the net twice as Ohio State topped Western Michigan, 4-2. Junior forwards Peter Boyd and Hunter Bishop also scored goals for the Buckeyes. Sophomore forward Greg Squires scored once and assisted on another goal for the Broncos. Junior forward Patrick Nagorsen also tallied a goal for Western Michigan.


At Oxford, Ohio,
it took eleven rounds, but Ferris State prevailed in a shootout over No. 1 Miami for the second time in as many nights. Ferris State won the shootout, 2-1, with goals from senior forward Blair Riley and sophomore defenseman Chad Billins. Senior forward Aaron Lewicki scored the lone regulation-goal for the Bulldogs. Junior forward Andy Miele had the only RedHawk-goal in regulation. Junior goaltender Pat Nagle made 39 saves in regulation for Ferris State.


At Bowling Green, Ohio,
Alaska struck three times in the opening period and hung on to knock off Bowling Green, 5-3. Freshman forward Jarret Granberg recorded a goal and two assists to lead the Nanooks.  Senior forward Dion Knelsen tallied two goals for Alaska, including and empty-netter. Freshman forward Jordan Samuels-Thomas contributed a goal and two assists in the loss for the Falcons. Junior forward David Solway scored two goals for Bowling Green.


At Omaha, Neb.,
junior forward Rick Schofield scored less than one minute into the first frame for the Lakers as Lake Superior opened up a 3-0 lead en route to a 3-1 victory over Nebraska-Omaha. Junior forward Will Acton and freshman forward Domenic Monardo also found the back of the net for the Lakers. Freshman forward Terry Broadhurst was the lone Maverick to record a goal in the loss.
