ND's Summerhays is Choice for Gongshow Goaltender of the Month

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today that Notre Dame junior Steven Summerhays has been named the Gongshow Goaltender of the Month for October.
Summerhays appeared in five games for Notre Dame during the month of October, posting a 4-1-0 record with one shutout, a 1.61 goals-against average, a .938 save percentage and 122 saves. He backstopped the Irish to a league-best 1.67 goals against per game in October.

The 6-foot, 188-pound netminder recorded a 22-save shutout in the first game of the season and allowed just two goals the next night, placing him on the All-Tournament Team at the Ice Breaker Tournament in Kansas City and earning him CCHA Goaltender of the Week honors. After suffering his first loss of the season to Minnesota Duluth, Summerhays rebounded by making 33 saves in a 4-1 win the following night. In his final game of the month on Oct. 26, the Anchorage, Alaska native turned aside 22 shots in a 5-2 win at Northern Michigan, setting up the Irish for a sweep the following night.

Special mention for the Gongshow Goaltender of the Month honors goes to Miami freshman Ryan McKay, Ohio State senior Brady Hjelle and Western Michigan sophomore Frank Slubowski.
