Northern Michigan Wins in Overtime

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Northern Michigan topped Alaska in overtime and Ohio State defeated Lake Superior in conference play. Notre Dame fell to North Dakota in non-conference action.

Marquette, Mich. – Senior defenseman Scott Macaulay scored a short-handed, game-winning goal in overtime to lead Northern Michigan past Alaska, 4-3. Senior forwards Adam Henderson and Jarret Granberg gave Alaska a two-goal lead. Northern Michigan answered with three straight tallies in the second period from junior forward Jake Johnson, senior forward Kory Kaunisto and junior defenseman Wade Epp. Alaska senior forward Andy Taranto scored a short-handed goal with under a minute left to send the game to overtime, where Macaulay scored the game-winning goal. Junior goaltender Jared Coreau turned aside 23 saves in the win for the Wildcats. At the other end of the ice, senior goaltender Steve Thompson made 14 saves for the Nanooks.

Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. – Ohio State topped Lake Superior, 4-1, for the Buckeyes third consecutive win. Ohio State scored the first three goals of the game with sophomore forwards Matt Johnson, Ryan Dzingel and Max McCormick all finding the back of the net. The lone goal for the Lakers came while on the power play and with an extra attacker, as sophomore forward Buddy Robinson notched a goal. Junior forward Chris Crane sealed the win for Ohio State, scoring an empty-net goal. Ohio State sophomore forward Tanner Fritz recorded the only multi-point night, potting two assists. Senior goaltender Brady Hjelle made 32 saves for Ohio State, while Lake Superior junior goaltender Kevin Murdock stopped 24 shots.

South Bend, Ind. –
Notre Dame fell behind by two goals and was unable to recover, falling to North Dakota, 2-1, in non-conference action. Junior forward Anders Lee scored the lone goal for the Irish on the power play. Freshman forward Mario Lucia tallied his first career assist and sophomore defenseman Robbie Russo also had a helper. Junior goaltender Steven Summerhays made 15 saves for Notre Dame.
