Riley Barber Earns Gongshow Rookie of the Month Honor

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today that forward Riley Barber of Miami has been named the Gongshow Rookie of the Month for November.

In seven games for the RedHawks, Barber recorded two goals and nine points, tying him for the second most points in November among all players as Miami went 4-1-2 on the month. His 18 points (6-12-18) on the season and 1.29 points per game are the best in the nation among rookies. The Livonia, Mich., native earned points in five of his seven games, notching three multi-point outings and finished the month with a +7 rating.

The sixth-round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2012 picked up a pair of assists on Nov. 3 against Ferris State and followed up with a power-play goal and two more assists against Northern Michigan on Nov. 9. The following night he notched another assist against the Wildcats in a 2-2 tie/shootout win and then added another assist on Nov. 17 against Michigan State. In his final game of the month at Alaska, Barber recorded his third multi-point night with the first game-winning goal of his career and added an assist.

This is Barber’s second straight month earning the Gongshow Rookie of the Month honor and his 1-3-4 performance against Northern Michigan on Nov. 9-10 earned him his second CCHA Gongshow Rookie of the Week honor.

Special mention for Gongshow Rookie of the Month honors goes to Lake Superior defenseman Eric Drapluk, Michigan State goaltender Jake Hildebrand and Western Michigan defenseman Kenney Morrison.
