Miller, Booth Named to USA Hockey Olympic Camp

USA Hockey today announced that former Spartans Ryan Miller and David Booth have been invited to the U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Orientation Camp to be held later this summer. A total of 34 players, representing 22 National Hockey League teams, will skate at this camp, which will be held Aug. 17-19 at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge, Ill. The camp is designed to assist in the preparation of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team that will compete at the XXI Olympic Winter Games to be held from Feb. 12-28, 2010, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Jeff Lerg Named CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year

Senior hockey player Jeff Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) has been named the Academic All-America of the Year in the At-Large Division by ESPN The Magazine, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Lerg has earned First Team Academic All-America honors for the second straight season, and in May graduated from Michigan State with a degree in Finance, boasting a 3.814 cumulative GPA.

Abdelkader Makes Mark On, Off Ice

Justin Abdelkader had more goals in the first three games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs than Pittsburgh stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin combined. Hockey fans around the country are learning some things about Abdelkader that Michigan State fans knew all along - that the longtime Wings fan-turned-phenom can score big goals. What they will also hopefully learn is something else that MSU faithful are aware of: Abdelkader is as remarkable a human being as he is a promising professional hockey player.
