David Brown named RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today that junior goaltender David Brown of the University of Notre Dame has been named the RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month for February. The 21-year old from Stoney Creek, Ont., led the Irish to a home-ice playoff berth with a 3-3-1 record during February. In seven contests, he posted a 1.70 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage, surrendering just 12 goals, seven of which were on the power play. The Irish scored just four goals in their three losses during the month and Brown was selected the Perani Cup second star in five of seven games played. The 5-foot-11, 199-pound netminder opened the month by turning aside 68-of-73 shots in a pair of road losses, 3-2 and 2-1, to Michigan State on Feb. 3-4. The following weekend the Pittsburgh Penguins' 2004 draft pick earned RBK Goaltender of the Week honors by stopping 55-of-58 shots in a home-and-home sweep of Ferris State on Feb. 11-12. A bout with the flu ended Brown's streak of 23 consecutive appearences on Feb. 18 but he bounced back the next night and made 34 saves in a 1-1 tie at Bowling Green. During the CCHA's final regular-season weekend, Brown helped the Irish split and nail down a home-ice playoff spot by allowing just three goals on 55 shots in a split with visiting Alaska Fairbanks. Brown, a CCHA Rookie of the Year finalist in 2003-04, is tied with his former Notre Dame goaltending partner, Morgan Cey, for first place on the school's career shutout list with six. In 25 CCHA contests this season, he has an 8-11-4 record, a 2.41 goals-against average, two shutouts and a .918 save percentage.
