Michigan hosts the reigning regular-season champion Miami RedHawks to a two-game set that begins on Thursday. Friday's game will be broadcast on CSTV at 8 p.m. Michigan State also engages in Thursday night action, playing an exhibition contest against the U.S. National Team Development Program. Ferris State and Western Michigan open up a home-and-home series at Western Michigan on Friday. In non-conference action, Ohio State plays host to the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Lake Superior State heads to New York to skate against Clarkson for a two-game set. Notre Dame and Bowling Green will travel to visit Boston College and Providence to play each in a single game with the Irish facing the Eagles and Falcons playing the Friars on Friday before switching opponents. Alaska faces intra-state rival Alaska Anchorage to begin play in the Governor's Cup. In tournament action, Nebraska-Omaha hosts the Mutual of Omaha Maverick Stampede. Northern Michigan opens the tournament, facing off against UMass-Lowell on Friday night at 4:05 p.m. Nebraska-Omaha battles Niagara in the second game Friday evening, beginning at 7:05 p.m. The Championship game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and the Consolation game will begin at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday. All tournament games are Central Time.
U.S. NTDP at #8 Michigan State (Exhibition, Thursday, 7:05 p.m.)
- Michigan State junior forward Bryan Lerg, sophomore defenseman Brandon Gentile and freshman defenseman Michael Ratchuk all played for the U.S. NTDP before joining the Spartans.

- The Wildcats hold a 5-2-0 all-time record over UMass Lowell, but have not played the River Hawks since 1988. Nebraska-Omaha is 2-4-1 versus Niagara.
- The winners of each game meet Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in the championship game. The losers play at 4:05 p.m. in a consolation game.

- The Irish play Providence on Saturday in a Commissioners' Cup Series game.
- Notre Dame lost, 2-1, to Providence at the 1999 Ice Breaker Tournament in the only meeting between the two teams. Current Irish associate head coach Paul Pooley was behind the bench for the Friars.

- Bowling Green State plays Providence on Saturday in a Commissioners' Cup Series game. The Falcons lead the Friars, 4-3-0, all-time but lost the last outing, 3-2 on Dec. 30, 2004.
- Boston College is 9-3-0 all-time against Bowling Green State, including a 9-6 victory at BGSU Arena last season. Bowling Green State junior forward Jonathan Matsumoto recorded his first career hat trick in the loss.
- Boston College head coach Jerry York coached at Bowling Green for 15 years and compiled a 342-248-31 record with the Falcons, guiding them to an NCAA National Championship in 1984.
- Current Bowling Green State coach Scott Paluch played under York and coached alongside him from 1992-94 for the Falcons and again for the Eagles from 1994-2002.
#7 Minnesota at Ohio State (Friday, 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, 8:05 p.m.)
- Minnesota becomes the first WCHA team to visit the Value City Arena when they play Ohio State in a two-game series.
- The Buckeyes have lost eight of nine all-time meetings against the Golden Gophers, including a 7-2 setback on Oct. 12, 2002 in the Hockey Hall of Fame Game at the Xcel Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
- Minnesota and Ohio State's Friday night contest is part of the Commissioners' Cup Series.
Lake Superior State at #14 Clarkson (Friday, 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, 7:05 p.m.)
- Lake Superior State plays Clarkson for the first time in over 11 years this weekend, with the second game as part of the Commissioners' Cup Series.
- The Lakers beat the Golden Knights, 5-4, in the NCAA Tournament on March 24, 1995.
- Lake Superior State coach Jim Roque left the Lakers the following year and spent six seasons as an assistant coach for Clarkson before returning the program. Lake Superior State holds a 4-2 all-time record over Clarkson.
- Both teams could meet during the second round of the Badger Classic on Dec. 29-30 in Madison, Wis.
Alaska-Anchorage at Alaska (Friday, 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, 7:05 p.m.)
- Alaska hosts instate rival Alaska-Anchorage in the first two games of the Governor's Cup series this weekend. The series concludes at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska on New Year's Eve.
- The Nanooks lead the Governor's Cup series, 8-5, over the Seawolves, including winning the last five in a row.
- Last weekend, Alaska-Anchorage won the Nye Frontier Classic title, defeating Nebraska-Omaha in a shootout after skating to a 2-2 tie.
- Along with being part of the Governor's Cup Series, Friday night's game is part of the Commissioners' Cup Series as well.
