Farmington Hills, Mich. - Michigan State and Western Michigan captured shootout victories while Bowling Green and Miami posted shutout wins on the road in Friday night conference action in the CCHA. Elsewhere, Nebraska-Omaha defeated visiting Mercyhurst, 3-1 and Ohio State dropped a 3-1 decision at Denver.

At East Lansing, Mich., sophomore forward Andrew Rowe scored both Spartan goals including a game-tying tally with less than five minutes left to send the game to overtime. MSU got shootout goals from senior forwards Kurt Kivisto and Matt Schepke to win, 2-1. The Wildcats got markers from junior forwards Matt Butcher and Ray Kaunisto, who also assisted on the first goal. Northern Michigan netminder junior Brian Stewart made 35 saves.

At Kalamazoo, Mich., Western Michigan senior forward Patrick Galivan scored with less then two minutes left in regulation time and the Broncos won the shootout, 1-0. The Bulldogs goal was scored by junior forward Blair Riley. Bronco sophomore goaltender Jerry Kuhn made 39 saves and stopped all three skaters in the shootout.

At Notre Dame, Ind., freshman goaltender Cody Reichard made 29 saves for his first collegiate win and shutout as Miami blanked the Irish, 2-0. Sophomore forward Pat Cannone scored the first RedHawks' goal and junior forward Gary Steffes added the second tally. Senior goalie Jordan Pearce made 21 saves between the pipes for the Irish.

At Fairbanks, Alaska, senior forward Brandon Svendsen scored with just over three minutes to play and junior goalie Jimmy Spratt made 30 saves as Bowling Green topped the Nanooks, 1-0. Senior goalie Chad Johnson made 21 stops in a losing cause for Alaska.

At Omaha, Nebraska, the Mavericks remained undefeated as they continue non-conference play with a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst. Freshman forward Alex Hudson notched his first two college goals to pace the Mavericks with sophomore forward Matt Ambroz adding his first of the season. Junior goalie Jeremie Dupont made 20 saves in recording his second win of the season.

At Denver, Colorado, Ohio State sophomore goaltender Dustin Carlson made 33 saves in the Buckeyes 3-1 loss to the Pioneers. Ohio State freshman defenseman Matt Bartkowski scored a power play goal that was assisted by senior forward Corey Elkins and sophomore defenseman Shane Sims. The Pioneers got a pair of goals from Kyle Ostrow and a goal and assist from Anthony Maiani.
