At Farmington Hills, Mich., Ferris State picked up its first conference win of the season with a 5-2 victory over Western Michigan.  Michigan State shutout Northern Michigan 2-0, Alaska shutout Bowling Green 3-0, while Miami edged Notre Dame 3-2 in conference play.  In non-conference play Boston University topped Michigan 7-2, Ohio State edged Denver 4-3, while Nebraska-Omaha defeated Mercyhurst 5-2.  Lake Superior rolled to a 7-0 victory over Windsor University in exhibition play.

 

At East Lansing, Mich., Jeff Lerg backstopped Michigan State to a 2-0 shutout victory over Northern Michigan.  The Spartan’s received a power play tally in the second period from freshman forward Daultan Leveille with assists coming from defensemen Matt Crandell and Ryan Turek.  Senior forward Matt Schepke netted an even strength goal in the third period.  Senior netminder Jeff Lerg stopped all 28 shots improving to 2-2-1 on the season.

 

At Big Rapids, Mich., Junior forwards Aaron Lewicki and Cody Chupp netted two goals apiece to lead Ferris State to a 5-2 victory over Western Michigan. Aaron Lewicki netted two-goals in the first three minutes of the game and the Bulldogs never looked back. Ferris State took a 3-0 lead after Cody Chupp netted a power play tally mid-way through the first period.  Junior forward Casey Haines netted a shorthanded tally in the second period for the Bulldogs.  Chupp picked up his second of the night early in the third to give the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead.  The Bronco’s responded with two-goals of their own in the third from junior forwards Chris Clackson and Cam Watson.  Bulldog senior forward Brendan Connolly sophomore defenseman Zach Redmond each added two assists on the evening.

 

At South Bend, Indiana, Miami beat Notre Dame 3-2 behind two power play goals.  Junior forward Gary Steffes netted his fifth of the season on the power play for the Redhawks mid-way through the first period of play.  Notre Dame responded with a goal of their own as sophomore defenseman Ian Cole found the back of the net.  Miami senior forwards Justin Mercier and Bill Loupee netted two-second period goals giving the Redhawks a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.  Senior forward Christian Hanson netted one for the Irish with fewer than two minutes to play in the third.  Freshman netminder Connor Knapp improved to 2-0-1 on the season for the Redhawks.

 

At Fairbanks, Alaska, Alaska shutouts Bowling Green 3-0 as the two teams split the weekend series.  Junior forward Dion Knelsen, freshman forward Justin Filzen, and senior forward Braden Walls each netted even-strength goals for the Nanooks.  Senior netminder Chad Johnson stopped all 27 shots faced.

 

At Boston, Massachusetts, Boston University hands Michigan a 7-2 loss.  Boston University jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  Freshman forward Robbie Czarnik netted his first collegiate goal for the Wolverines.  Sophomore forward Louie Caporusso netted his fifth of the season for the Wolverine.

 

At Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Lake Superior rolls to a 7-0 victory over Windsor University in exhibition play.  Sophomore forward Will Action who scored two power play goals and freshman forward Fred Cassiani who scored two goals paced the Lakers.  Also scoring for the Lakers were freshman defenseman Kyle Haines, junior forward Nathan Perkovich, and senior defenseman Steven Olesky.  Junior goaltender Mitch Edmondson stopped all 9 shots faced.

 

At Omaha, Nebraska, Nebraska-Omaha rolled to a 5-2 victory over Mercyhurst in non-conference play.  The Mavericks scored the first four goals of the contest as five different Mavericks’s found the back of the net.  Sophomore forward Matt Ambroz, junior forward Jeric Agosta, freshman forward Jordan Wilbert, and senior forward Tomas Klempa each netted a goal in the first period of play for the Mavericks.  Senior forward Dan Charleston netted a goal mid-way through the second and the Maverick’s cruised to a 5-2 win.  Senior netminder Jerad Kaufmann improved to 2-0-0 on the season.

 

At Denver, Colorado, Ohio State topped Denver 4-3 in non-conference play.  Sophomore forward Kyle Reed put the Buckeyes on the board with a power play tally in the first period.  Denver scored the next three goals in the game taking a 3-1 lead I in the game.  Freshman forward Zac Dalpe scored a power play tally late in the second period bring the Buckeyes back within one.  Senior forward Corey Elkins netted a goal early in the third period to bring the Buckeyes even with Denver.  With less than three minutes to play sophomore forward Peter Boyd netted the game-winning goal for the Buckeyes as the edged Denver 4-3.  Buckeye freshman netminder Cal Heeter appeared in his first collegiate contest as he picked up the victory for Ohio State.
