Farmington Hills, Mich., Alaska, Miami, Nebraska-Omaha and Northern Michigan all used home-ice advantage to post conference victories while Lake Superior, Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame combined to help the CCHA go 4-0-0 in non-conference action on Friday night in the CCHA.

 

At Fairbanks, Alaska, junior forward Kyle Greentree scored with just over four minutes left in the third period to lift Alaska over Ferris State, 2-1. Junior defenseman Brandon Gawryletz notched the other Nanooks goal while junior defenseman Jim Jorgensen replied for the Bulldogs.

 

At Oxford, Ohio, junior forward Ryan Jones and sophomore defenseman Alec Martinez both had a goal and an assist to help Miami defeat Bowling Green, 4-3. The RedHawks, who outshot the Falcons 45-30, also got goals from sophomore defenseman Ray Eichenlaub and freshman forward Gary Steffes. Rookie goalie Eddie Neville made 41 stops while junior forward Derek Whitmore scored for a fifth straight game for the Falcons who also got markers from rookie forward Tomas Petruska and junior forward John Mazzei.

 

At Omaha, Neb., senior forward Scott Parse fired the winning goal and added two assists to lead Nebraska-Omaha to a 7-5 win over Western Michigan. Broncos' freshman forward Mark Letestu had a four-point game, including his first collegiate hat trick. Senior forward Alex Nikiforuk scored twice for UNO while senior forward Nenad Gajic and sophomore defenseman Juha Uotila each added a goal and an assist.

 

At Marquette, Mich., senior goaltender Bill Zaniboni made 22 saves for his second shutout of the season as Northern Michigan blanked Ohio State, 2-0. Sophomore forward Nick Sirota scored in the second period for the Wildcats while senior forward Darin Olver added an insurance marker in the third period.

 

At Sault St. Marie, Mich., senior goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 23 saves for his eighth career shutout and senior forward Jeff Rainville scored twice in Lake Superior State's 5-0 win over American International. Senior forward Derek R. Smith and sophomore forward Troy Schwab both set up two goals for the Lakers.

 

At Ann Arbor, Mich., junior forward Kevin Porter scored his second goal of the game a minute into overtime to give Michigan 4-3 win over Northeastern. Junior forward Chad Kolarik and senior forward David Rohlfs also turned the red light on for the Wolverines with senior forward Mike Morris recording two power-play goals and an assist for the Huskies.

 

In East Lansing, Mich., junior forward Bryan Lerg scored a goal and added an assist to help Michigan State to a 5-3 victory over St. Lawrence. Freshman forward Jay Sprague and sophomore forward Kurt Kivisto both scored their first college goal for the Spartans, who outshot the Saints, 30-17.

 

At Tampa, Fla., sophomore goaltender Jordan Pearce needed to make just seven saves as Notre Dame advanced to the championship game of the Lightning College Hockey Classic with a 3-0 win over Army. Freshman forward Ryan Thang, sophomore forward Christian Hanson and sophomore forward Garrett Regan did the damage as the Irish scored once in each period. Notre Dame faces Air Force at 8:05 p.m. in tonight's finals. The Falcons defeated Alabama-Huntsville, 7-5, in the other tournament game.
