At East Lansing, Mich., Junior forward Justin Mercier scored two goals to lead top-ranked Miami to a 4-2 decision over third-ranked Michigan State. Junior forward Brian Kaufmann netted a power-play goal for the RedHawks in the first period with assists going to freshman forwards Carter Camper and Pat Cannone. Michigan State's Tim Kennedy responded midway through the second period with help from junior forward Justin Abdelkader and sophomore defenseman Mike Ratchuk. Mercier found the net for the `Hawks second power-play goal of night about six minutes later. Freshman forward Corey Tropp knotted the score for the Spartans late in the second period. Davis tallied the game winner just 54 seconds into the third period. Senior forward Nino Musitelli and senior defenseman Mitch Ganzak recorded the assists. Mercier added an empty-netter for insurance late in the third period. Miami outshot the defending national champions 34-24.
The series finale will be tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. from Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Michigan.
