FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Lake Superior State and Alaska both scored first-period goals, then shut out in the second and third periods of Saturday's Central Collegiate Hockey Association game.

Alaska (8-4-2 overall, 6-3-1-1 CCHA) went on to win the shootout, 1-0, and extended its ubeaten streak to four games. Lake Superior State (4-6-4 overall, 3-4-3-1 CCHA) dropped to 1-3 overall and 1-2 against CCHA opponents in games decided by a shootout.

Senior captain Troy Schwab scored at 9:35 of the first period to give the Lakers an early 1-0 lead. Josh Sim and Fred Cassiani had the assists. Alaska's Dustin Molle answered at 14:18.

LSSU sophomore goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson, who finished with 24 saves, stopped all 11 Alaska shots in the second period and six in the third. The Lakers out-shot UAF, 36-25, including 2-0 in overtime. Nanooks goaltender Chad Johnson totaled 35 saves.

Steven Kaunisto, Rick Schofield and Cassiani failed to score for LSSU during the shootout. Alaska secured the extra point in the CCHA standings by getting a goal from Braden Walls on the Nanooks' first attempt. It was UAF's first shootout of the season.

LSSU was 0-for-4, and Alaska finished 0-for-5 on the power play.

The Lakers return to Sault Ste. Marie to play host to back-to-back home series against Northern Michigan (Dec. 5-6) and Nebraska-Omaha (Dec. 12-13).
