The 2012 CCHA Tournament continued the format establised in the 2011 CCHA Tournament, featuring all 11 teams qualifying for the playoffs. The first round of the 2011 tournament will take place March 4-6. The top five seeds receive a bye into the quarterfinal round as seeds six, seven and eight will play host to seeds 11, 10 and nine, respectively, at campus sites in a best-of-three series. The quarterfinals, taking place March 11-13, os also a best-of-three, campus site setting, showcasing the fourth seed hosting the fifth, and seeds one through three hosting the winners from the first round. The No. 1 seed will play the lowest reamining seed from the first round, the No. 2 seed facing off against the second lowest seed, and the No. 3 seed battling the highest remaing seed. The final four teams will be involved in semifinal action on Friday, March 18 at Joe Louis Arena, and the CCHA Championship will be held Saturday, March 19. The CCHA Tournament champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
